Melissa A. McDiarmid, MD, MPH, DABT is Professor of Medicine and Director of the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Occupational Health Program. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and her M.P.H. from The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where she also completed fellowship training in Occupational Medicine. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine and Toxicology. Dr. McDiarmid was Director of the Office of Occupational Medicine for the US Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) in Washington DC, a position she held from 1991 until 1996. From 1987 until moving to OSHA, she was on the Environmental Health Sciences faculty at The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health where she directed the Occupational Medicine residency. Dr. McDiarmid has conducted studies and authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on healthcare workers, medical surveillance and management, reproductive health and occupational cancers.
