Heinzow Birger G.J.

Birger Heinzow is a pharmacologist and toxicologist specialized in Environmental Health and Toxicology. He received his medical education at the University of Hamburg and Kiel, and post-doc training at the Baker Medical Research Institute of Monash University in Melbourne. He became head of the Institute of Environmental Toxicology in Kiel in 1984 and is currently head of the Department of Environmental Health at the State Agency for Social Services of Schleswig-Holstein (LAsD). He is adjunct professor for Pharmacolgy, Toxicology and Environmental Medicine at University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney Medical School.
He was a member of the International Medical Commission on Bhopal in 1994 and served as secretary of the Commission on Toxicolgy and the Divison on Chemistry and Human Health of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) between 1993 and 2005. He served as chairman of the Commission on Indoor-Air Hygiene of the German Environmental Agency (UBA) and of the Commission on Methods and Quality Assurance in Environmental Medicine of the Robert-Koch-Institute (RKI) in Berlin, and is a member of several other national committees and national and international professional organizations.
