Professor Peter Sly enjoys a high profile with an international reputation in the areas of lung function testing of infants and preschool aged children, respiratory physiology, clinical management of childhood asthma and children's environmental health. Professor Sly's research interests include mechanisms for the development and prevention of asthma, measurement of lung function in infants and small children, small animal models of asthma and other respiratory diseases, cystic fibrosis and environmental impacts on major childhood diseases.

His current appointments are: Deputy Director, Queensland Children?s Medical Research Institute and Director, Children?s Health and Environment Program, The University of Queensland, Australia.

Professor Sly was awarded a DSc for his Asthma research from the University of Western Australia in 2002. He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the America Thoracic Society, The European Respiratory Society, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and is the Chair of the Pacific Basin Consortium for Environment and Health.
