GINA M. SOLOMON, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Solomon is the Deputy Secretary for Science and Health at the California Environmental Protection Agency. She is also a clinical professor in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Solomon previously served as a Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council; as the director of the occupational and environmental medicine residency program at UCSF; and as the associate director of the UCSF Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit. She has served on the EPA Chartered Science Advisory Board since 2011 as well as on the EPA Board of Scientific Counselors since 2014; she also serves on the National Research Council (NRC) Board of Environmental Studies and Toxicology, and was previously on other NRC committees, on the National Toxicology Program's Board of Scientific Counselors and on the California Biomonitoring Scientific Guidance Panel. She has authored about 50 peer-reviewed articles, a book published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press, numerous reports, and chapters in several textbooks. Dr. Solomon?s work has included research on diesel exhaust and asthma, endocrine disrupting chemicals, pesticides, environmental contaminants in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the health implications of the 2010 Gulf oil spill, and the health effects of climate change. Dr. Solomon received her bachelor's degree from Brown University, a doctorate of medicine from the Yale University School of Medicine, and a master's degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She is board-certified in both internal medicine and occupational and environmental medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine in California.
