Dr. Tushar Kant Joshi received his training in occupational and environmental medicine at the London School of Hygiene and at the University of California, San Francisco. He was a visiting research fellow at the London School of Hygiene before returning to India to set up the country's first teaching-based hospital centers for occupational and environmental health at MAMC and also at Lok Nayak Hospital while acting as a National Consultant for the World Health Organization. He currently heads the centers and is also a visiting professor at the Drexel University’s School of Public Health in Philadelphia. The centers have ties with the University of Berkeley and several other centers of excellence. In 2001, Dr Joshi was the first Indian physician elected as a Fellow by Collegium Ramazzini. He received the Research Integrity Award in 2003 from the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, Perth, Australia and the Prof. Irving Selikoff award in 2004 on the occasion of the Global Asbestos Congress held in Tokyo. The centers at MAMC and Lok Nayak Hospital train physicians and scientists in the area of environmental health. He is on the advisory boards of international and national journals and has scores of publications to his credit. This year, the MAMC became the first medical school in India to start a post graduate course in occupational medicine.
