Dear Fellows and Emeritus Fellows,

This is the JUNE 8 th newsletter – and it contains all the information you need regarding the upcoming Collegium Ramazzini Elections.

Election of Officers 2021

CR PRESIDENT: We are about to hold the election for a new Collegium Ramazzini President. The CR President, Dr. Philip Landrigan will be finishing his term in 2021 and he decided to step down after more than 20 years in the role.

The two candidates for the next Collegium Ramazzini President are:

The nominations for these two candidates came from the Executive Council. We did not receive any additional complete nominations (with the petition signed by at least 20% of the Fellows, i.e., at least 36 active Fellows) although both of the candidates have received letters to support their nomination from within the community of CR active fellows.

To find out more about each candidate, please see the attached files. These documents contain a picture, a statement of purpose describing why they want to become president and details about their professional experience.

A communication will go out to ALL ACTIVE FELLOWS (not Emeritus) on Thursday June 10th to participate in the election. Once again we will be using the election buddy system. Fellows can vote any time between June 10-30, 2021.

The next elections will be for the CR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL in September 2021. Nominations for new EC members must be sent by September 1 and elections will be held Sept 10-30. More details will be communicated about this election, after the completion of the presidential election.

CR Scientific Updates

A number of CR Fellows were involved in the publication of this recent ILO report "Exposure to hazardous chemicals at work and resulting health impacts: A global review". This report provides the most recent evidence base for chemical exposures and resulting health impacts in the world of work, as well as insights into regional trends, gender considerations and priority action areas. The report highlights that every year, more than 1 billion workers are exposed to hazardous substances, including pollutants, dusts, vapors and fumes in their working environments. Many of these workers lose their life following such exposures, succumbing to fatal diseases, cancers and poisonings, or from fatal injuries following fires or explosions. All of these deaths, injuries and illnesses are entirely preventable.

Ramazzini Days 2021 October 28-31, 2021

The Ramazzini Days 2021 will be held on October 28-31, 2021. We are working hard to make it a hybrid event – but we are unable to make a final confirmation at this time. As soon as we get some more information from CARPI we will let you know. It the meantime, thank you for participating in the recent doodle poll.

Abstracts of oral presentations or posters regarding the scientific program may be presented to Priority Topics committee co-chair Melissa McDiarmid (mmcdiarm@medicine.umaryland.edu)

Invitation to submit nominees for the 2021 Ramazzini Award and Special Award: We invite you to submit nominees for the 2021. The awards were put on hold for 2020 in the virtual format – so please take some time to nominate worthy recipients for this fall. Fellows are invited to submit nominations to the Awards Committee by sending them to the Committee Chair Henry Anderson. Please include some background on the nominee including why you believe that the person deserves this award and their CV or biographical sketch. Henry will contact you directly if more information is needed. For more details on the nature of the awards – or see previous award winners – click on the dedicated pages of the CR website.
