July 19th 2021
Dear Fellows and Emeritus Fellows,
I hope you all continue to be safe (and vaccinated) in these challenging times. This is the News Update for JULY 2021.
RAMAZZINI DAYS – HYBRID MEETING FOR 2021
The 2021 Ramazzini Days are scheduled for Thursday, Oct 28 – Sunday, Oct 31
Breaking news –on behalf of the CR Executive Council, I confirm that we are planning the 2021 Ramazzini Days in HYBRID FORMAT: both in-person in Carpi for those who can travel and online via zoom for fellows attending from home.
For people attending ONLINE, the Ramazzini Days will be very similar to the 2020 version. The Scientific Sessions and Council of Fellows will be scheduled in the afternoons (Italian time) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, allowing for people to connect from all time zones. The morning activities will be dedicated to the in-person small group activities (topic discussions and committee meetings). Fellows will be able to participate (present, moderate and ask questions) in the Scientific Sessions both in-person and online. Please see below a DRAFT schedule for the 2021 event.
Registration: Online registration will be launched on AUGUST 1. If you are planning to come to Carpi, please prepare to register ASAP. Priority is given on a first come first serve basis.
Scientific Program: abstracts for virtual oral/poster presentations for the scientific program may be presented to Priority topics committee chairs Melissa McDiarmid and Carol Rice and uploaded onto the website here: (you must be signed in to the CR site to reach this link).
Fees: There will be a meeting fee for all attendees. In addition, for those attending in-person, there will be the Carpi fee that covers meals, hotel stay, and transportation to and from Carpi. For fellows from LMIC, the meeting fees will be waived and there is Selikoff funding available to cover some or all Carpi fees as needed.
COVID: The Covid 19 pandemic is not over and no one can predict the future. We are confident that we can hold an in-person portion of the Ramazzini Days, with vaccinated guests and social distancing. If for some reason, we are forced to cancel the in-person portion, all Carpi fees will be returned in full.
The Awards Committee is requesting nominees for the 2021 Ramazzini Award. Fellows are invited to submit nominations to the Awards Committee by sending them to the Committee Chair Henry Anderson (email@example.com). Please include some background on the nominee including why you believe that the person deserves this award and their CV or biographical sketch. Henry will contact you directly if more information is needed.
The deadline for submitting nominations for membership in the Collegium Ramazzini is August 15th. You can review the nomination guidelines here.
There is also the possibility to become an Emeritus Member. Fellows who have been active in the life of the Collegium Ramazzini and have now retired or transitioned to a different phase of their careers may request to transition to Emeritus status. Emeritus fellows are invited to attend annual meetings. They are no longer responsible for annual membership dues and do not vote in elections. Emeritus Fellows are not counted against the 180 active membership limit, thus allowing the Collegium to elect new colleagues. If you would like to present this request to the Executive council, please contact me by September 1 and write EMERITUS REQUEST as the email subject
CR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
A message was sent recently from CR President Dr. Philip Landrigan and CR Secretary-General Dr. Morando Soffritti:
Dear Fellows and Emeritus Fellows of the Collegium Ramazzini,
The elections for CR President were completed and we have a winner. We had two amazing and equally qualified candidates - so for the Collegium Ramazzini, it was a no-risk election. I thank Kurt and Melissa for all their hard work for the organization.
The new CR President will be Dr. Melissa McDiarmid. Of the 180 voting fellows, 68% participated in the election (122 votes) and McDiarmid received 58,7% of the vote. Following the Collegium Ramazzini Bylaws, she will take office as of January 2022.
A warm congratulations to Melissa from us and all of the other members of the Executive Council.
Best regards, Philip & Morando
CR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEMBER ELECTION
The next elections will be held in the fall for one seat on the Executive Council. There is one free position that is created by Dr. McDiarmid passing to the role of President. As usual, voting will take place electronically using the “Election Buddy” system. Nominations will be accepted until 1 September as per the procedure outlined in Article V, section 4 of the bylaws. Please note that petitions (together with a list of 20% of members or 36 names) may be submitted electronically to the General Secretary c/o Susannah Tillson firstname.lastname@example.org.
