SCIENTIFIC SESSION II: During the 10 years since the Collegium Ramazzini conference on the precautionary principle in 2002, much new information and experience have been gathered on interpreting uncertainty and applying precaution. The European Environment Agency (EEA) is currently finalizing an extensive report ‘Late lessons from early warnings: science, precaution, innovation’ with contributions from several Collegium Ramazzini Fellows. Case studies reveal how research has been misinterpreted, ignored, and erroneously criticised, and scientific traditions and ubiquitous uncertainty have often appeared to oppose public health interests. This year's scientific session will focus on the role of science in environmental and occupational health and new approaches to the science-policy interface. |
